The Coppock house, barn and associated farmland were sold out of the family in 2001 to a property "flipper". The author was eventually able to reach an informal agreement with the new owner in late 2003 to buy the barn complex proper, in hopes of preventing its inevitable demolition. This agreement specified that eventually a small portion of land surrounding the barn, as well as a strip of land necessary to access it, would also be sold to the author. The purchase of barn, underlying land and access could not be accomplished initially by the author, as the owner did not want to commit to any sale of land that might in some way complicate his presumed sale of the much larger portion of remaining land at a later date.

Unfortunately, the agreed to later sale of land/access to the author never materialized. This, because the access path necessary to prevent the barn from being "landlocked" proved troublesome as the current owner was negotiating to sell the land in 2005 to a second "flipper". As such, the agreement with the author was breached by the current owner and the barn was demolished in late 2005 as part of the terms of sale between the current and future owner.

In late 2003, just after purchasing the barn, the author decided to keep a journal of each visit to the barn, to include a brief description of the work accomplished, as well as other related thoughts. The log was meant only to be a repository for a very brief summary of the events of the day, not a comprehensive accounting of activities. For the most part, the entries presented are verbatim as jotted down by the author at the time, including poor grammar and punctuation. In some cases, angry language has been softened. Numerous footnotes were added to the log while the author prepared it for publishing here, in hopes of providing additional context and understanding for the reader.

The author took hundreds of photographs of all types of repairs at the barn complex. Links to photographs of specific repairs are found in the journal entries where that particular work is discussed. Click on a year button above to be taken to the log entries for that year.
